Norwich Projections

ARRO delivered large-scale projection-mapped shows across two prominent locations in Norwich city centre as part of the city’s Christmas lighting programme. The 20-minute shows ran on the hour, every hour, over a seven-week period, helping to transform the city into a major festive destination.

Commissioned by Norwich BID, the project was designed to increase footfall, attract visitors into the city centre, and establish Norwich as one of England’s leading Christmas destinations. The shows were viewed by thousands of visitors and received extensive media attention, including coverage from the BBC and national press outlets.

At Norwich City Hall, a fully animated 3D Christmas story was projection mapped across the building’s 180-foot façade, combining vibrant colour, movement, and family-friendly storytelling. Temporary shelters and rigging structures were constructed to securely house the projection equipment throughout the installation period.

Meanwhile, Norwich Castle became the canvas for a more dramatic and artistic narrative centred around romance and theatrical visual effects. Detailed 3D scale models of the castle were created to develop accurate green-screen environments, while filmed aerial dancers appeared to interact directly with the castle’s architecture, manipulating light and colour across the façade.

The success of the project led to a further five-year partnership with Norwich BID, with ARRO providing a fully tailored projection-mapping hire contract for Norwich Castle.

The bespoke long-term service included the supply of all projection equipment and custom housing, full installation and setup, the creation of bespoke animated content, and ongoing servicing and maintenance. ARRO also delivered on-site training for the BID team, enabling them to independently upload and manage content for events and festivals throughout the year.
